Set in the French countryside, on harvest picnic day, this romantic comedy ballet is a tale of a love triangle.
Lise is in love with Colas a local boy, but her mother the Widow Simone is set upon her marriage to Alain, a sweet but simple-minded lad with a fond attachment to his red umbrella.
The wealthy land owner Thomas, father of Alain, offers bags of money to Widow Simone to seal the wedding agreement of Lise & Alain.
Throughout the story, Widow Simone does everything to keep Lise away from Colas, while Lise & Colas with the aid of their friends continue their flirtation.
The story begins in the barnyard with the rooster awakening for the day, and continues into the harvest picnic with a maypole dance & clog dance, culminating in a big storm where everyone is blown away.
Evening sees a return to the farmhouse, where Lise is locked inside to await the arrival of Alain for the wedding ceremony. Colas sneaks in and the pair are caught in each others arms as the wedding documents are signed.
Will Widow Simone consent and allow the lovers to marry?
This production is presented by Essentially Ballet's Yoth Production Company with Guest Artists from the Victorian College of The Arts Secondary School, under the Direction of Linda McKay,
